Mombasa City is an amazing place to experience one of the best adventure tours in Kenya. Take a look at some of the places to visit in this tour today! Find out how much you can do in Mombasa in just a day!

1. When is the best time to visit Mombasa!

As with other areas in Eastern Africa, Mombasa has two rainy seasons. The longest of which is in April and May, and dusting off in June. You have hours of sunshine, overcast and also few days of “rain-break”, thanks to Kenya being right on the equator. The rains are followed by the long dry season from July through October. This is the best time to visit Mombasa when combined with a safari as the sky has few clouds, and sunshine is abundant. The short rains in Mombasa begin in November and last until the end of December. This is when the shorter hot-dry season begins. Average temperatures vary only slightly over the course of the year. With January and February and parts of March being the warmest month.

2. Location of Mombasa.

Mombasa is a coastal city of Kenya along the Indian Ocean. It is the country’s oldest and second-largest city , with an estimated population of about 1.5 million people in 2017. Its metropolitan region is the second largest in the country and has a population of approximately 3 million people. Administratively, Mombasa is the county seat of Mombasa County.

Mombasa is a regional cultural and economic hub. It has an extra-large port and an international airport, and is an important regional tourism center. Mombasa is located on the east coast of Kenya, and is the home of one of the State House (Kenya). It is a second capital in all but name.

Kenya’s most ancient city, Mombasa is strictly speaking an island, which boasts a long and proud history.

Day 1

Your tour starts on Mombasa mainland, with a visit to the Akamba Woodcarving Factory. Here, you may watch the skilled craftsmen at work and purchase their wares in their co-operative shops.

After that, you will visit one of Mombasa’s decorative Hindu Temples. And all the while, as you drive, your multi lingual guide will point out to you the many visible facets of Mombasa’s colourful history, including the famous arch of giant elephant tusks (Metal not Ivory!); the town’s cornucopia of spice shops and the old, Mackinnon Market. Your next port of call is the Portuguese castle, Fort Jesus together with its museum, followed by a visit to the old Arab Quarter where the historic dhow port will remind you of Sinbad, the seafarer.

Proceed for lunch at the Tamarind dhow/restaurant. After lunch, you will either visit Haller Park or Ngomongo villages, an abandoned marram quarry reclaimed into a lush forest over a period of ten years. Integrated in the created forest are ten diverse rural Kenyan tribal households. Learn their ways of life and be entertained by cultural dancers after the tour.

Thereafter, you will be driven back to your respective hotels.
