Safari in Kenya; about the experience.
What is the best place to go for a safari?
Going for a safari is a great way to explore and discover great adventures with friends or family. Kenya is one of the most beautiful countries in the world! Being home to some of the greatest national parks in the world, my country Kenya is by far the greatest destination for an African safari. Some of the national parks that I am talking about are;
- Nairobi National Park
- Tsavo National Parks
- Amboseli National Park
- Masai Mara National Reserve
- Lake Nakuru National Park.
These are just a few of the wide range of spaces that one can have a game drive in. Aside from the national parks, the cities are also great places to discover the historical background of each and every location in Kenya. Take for example Mombasa.
- Mombasa.
Being a coastal city, Mombasa has played a significant role in the development of the economy of Kenya since it is a coastal country. Trade, transportation, and even culture have their roots in the coastal city of Mombasa.
To learn more about Mombasa city, here are a few destinations that one can visit;
- Fort Jesus.
- The Mackinnon Market.
- Haller Park.
And many more.
All these can be visited during our Mombasa City Tour which is a full-day excursion that covers every aspect of the famous city of Mombasa. To those who would like a tweak in the program, a choice is always provided for an ale carte tour of Mombasa.
But back to the main subject;
when is the best time to go on a Kenyan safari?
- January to March
This is a suitable period to visit safari destinations. This is because the climatic conditions during this period are mild and suitable for a day out in the sun.
- June to October.
The period of June to October is the best for wildlife viewing in Kenya. This is the period when Kenya experiences its dry season and when wild animals are searching for green pastures. One can plan ahead for a safari within this period.
- July to September
This is a shorter period when Kenya experiences its dry season. It is also a great time to visit Kenya because, depending on the preference of the safari specialist, this period may be better in comparison t others to visit Kenya.

Activities that you can take part in while on a Kenyan safari are;
- Wildebeest Migration.
This is the main and most common reason why tourists visit Kenya. This is also one of the best reasons to visit Kenya. Wildebeest are wild animals that annually migrate between Kenya’s Masai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti. The wildebeest migration usually starts in August of every year and goes up to October when the wildebeest are searching for green pastures.
- Wildlife Safari.
The dry season, however, is not the only time that is great for visiting Kenya. Generally, wildlife can be seen throughout the year. There are many factors to be considered before planning to go for a safari in Kenya. Even though the wildlife itself is the most important, there are other things like
- weather conditions;
- budget
- seasons
- Beach Stay.
Aside from the usual wildlife safari or game driving experience, why not spend time at the beach? Beach stays are a different kind of experience because you get the best of both worlds; a day out in the sun as well as a cool afternoon on the beachside. Some of the most popular beaches that you can visit in Kenya are;
- Mombasa Beaches.
- Malindi Beaches.
- Watamu Beaches.
- Diani Beach
- Hot air ballooning.
This is one adrenaline-filled affair! For those that are not quite good with heights, hot air ballooning would be a scary experience for you. Hot air balloons are beautiful structures. Talking about a hot air ballooning experience will make one look like they were living off the clouds. This activity is 100 percent safe for any particular traveler looking to have a great time while on safari.
The most common place to have a hot air ballooning experience is The Masai Mara.
- Photography.
Photography may look like more of a hobbyist activity where only professional photographers may be allowed to take photographs while on safari. That is not true! Anyone is allowed to take pictures while on safari. The best of moments may be captured while taking pictures. And documenting a safari experience in the form of pictures will make you want to come back on safari again.
For those looking forward to doing photography professionally, you are advised to carry backup batteries and chargers for your cameras. This is because while on different bush tours, or on bush camps, you will need an extra source of power for your gadgets.
- Culture visits.
Culture is the stronghold of most communities in Kenya. It is as well a source of income for many people in Kenya. Taking part in culture visits will not only act as a way of giving back to the community, but it is a way of also providing a new experience to oneself.
Learning a communities culture is a source of knowledge and in some cases a way to entertain oneself during a safari or game drive. Masai cultural village visits are the most common cultural expeditions that are always accompanied by the famous Masai cultural dance.
- Camping.
Camping in Kenya is exciting. Though, it will depend on the type of camping experience that you are looking for as a traveler. Bush camping offers a more indulging experience and gives the traveler to invest in each and every aspect that involves camping like building the tent, building a campfire and even setting up a sleeping bag.
Glamping, on the other hand, is a more luxurious experience that may be taken up by travelers looking forward to testing out the environment and just enjoying themselves outdoors. Glamping is done mostly in tented camps and lodges, so the experience is more favorable for a first-time traveler.
Camping in general is a fantastic activity for a Kenyan safari.
